Katharina Koch, born in 1975, lives and works as a designer, artist and illustrator and after six years in Basel and Zurich, currently lives and works in Berlin. She studied Industrial Design (Berlin-Weissensee Art Academy, University of the Arts) and Visual Communication in Berlin and Basel (Basel Art Academy).
In her artistic work, the designer largely deals with the subject of fashion, the representation of garments and their visual materiality. She is also interested in the topic of sustainability in relation to textile remnants and their reinterpretation in the form of wickerwork and free and applied objects.
In addition to many exhibitions and projects as an artist and illustrator, she worked as an accessories designer for the Porsche Design Group, among others. In 2014, she successfully founded her own accessories label POMPONPOUF. www.pomponpouf.de
At Koch & Friends, the designer is responsible for the company’s entire graphic appearance. The company’s corporate identity, including illustrations, advertisements, mesh banners and large outdoor advertising, etc. Katharina Koch is married to Florian Koch and they live in Berlin with their two sons.
“A visually appealing, clear appearance is a matter of course for me in everyday life. I try to achieve this in aesthetic approaches – even for the representation of a property as an artistic sketch!”
What is your role at Koch & Friends and what are your tasks?
First I developed the CI for Koch&Friends, which affected the overall appearance, structure and particularly striking visibility of the company. For example: logo, letterhead, signage, business cards, mesh banners, the awning and much more.
I am responsible for the entire design in the graphic area, which is needed for the daily process, i.e. advertisements, flyers, greeting cards, exposés, pictograms, artistic illustration of a topic, web design, outdoor advertising (e.g. large advertising posters, mesh banners, electricity boxes…)
What characterizes your work for K & F?
It is important to me to create a coherent, individual and unique image for this company: the logo, the texts, a personalized color selection, icons, etc. – everything coordinated with each other. The biggest goal is to always pursue new ideas for the visualization of architecture and special properties and to develop the appropriate new advertising forms and formats in the graphic area for Koch &Friends.
In addition, what kind of artistic projects and design topics are you currently pursuing?
At the moment I am realizing several projects in parallel. The topic of fashion, textile leftovers from our throwaway society, preoccupies me a lot and so I am working on various projects in this context. Products are created in the free artistic and applied areas. I also deliberately combine my painting and illustration with other materials on lived-in porcelain. In addition, the continuous work on my accessories label POMPONPOUF. constantly gives rise to new ideas for a future collection.
